Last month Rebrick had a contest amongst MCP's. It was simple -- had to be an EV3 robot, could not be one of the bonus models,  public would votes during month of September,  then most likes would wins -- This was not an easy task but 9 prepared MCP's  have managed to treat us with great EV3 creations! Michael has just sent us details of his recent creation, a tiny NXT based Biped called "My Very First Bipend" that won the SnapBots challenge over at NXTlog. It's a great design and cleverly relies on momentum of the NXT brick to maintain balance. Arno, A.K.A. “ legoasimo ” is working on a Biped that reminds me of the Bioloid . The monster MOC is controlled by three NXTs running NXC tethered out of sight. He has filled this bot with fourteen motors and ten sensors and done a spectacular job cramming it all into a small package. The robot shifts his weight using its upper body weight along with its arms, which gives it a natural anthropomorphic look. Arno tells me that he is done building the robot, but plans to keep working on the software to make it walk. This video is basically a “proof of concept” and I think he has proven his concept will work quite nicely. He also tells me that there will be more videos, so stayed tuned. Most bipeds walk in a halting, stilted manner. This one has a more natural feel, with the legs being swung out and the feet touching down far more gently. Yes I know it's being held up by string, but boy does it look good! -- Damien Kee www.theNXTclassroom.com

Check out this huge build from 222Doc. It has 7 degrees of freedom, and can walk up a step of 1.5 inches in height. Notice how it moves the NXT's from left to right to shift the centre of mass over the supporting foor. -- Damien Kee www.domabotics.com

Congrats to all the entries to the Biped Challenge, and to the winners: CHAMPION'S AWARD Bipedal Dragon Prototype Created by: billy259 The Bipedal Dragon Prototype has loose ankles that can bend left or right, tilting the robot as it steps. The Prototype also moves a hinged NXT intelligent brick left and right when it is stepping. The mechanism is a simple hookup to and extension on the legs (similar to the way Alpha Rex has that hookup). It is simple, but effective, and does not strain the motors. Combined with the rubber grippers in its feet, it is able to step forward and walk. Weightshifting is a bit difficult to manage when you want your robot to look a certain way, but in the end The Bipedal Dragon Prototype came out looking pretty good! billy259 provides an incredibly detailed NXTLOG, excellent pictures, and annotated program files (we would love to see some video now).
